I'm trying to install Zune on my new computer (running Windows 7, 64 bit). During the first try, I got an error message (0xc8000222) sending me to a web page with instructions. I followed them and download & installed Zune package 47.exe . Running that got me further until I got a new error message 'Windows Portable Device Update didn't install' with a link that took me to the same web page as before (the one that instructed me to install Zune package47.exe.). So now what?
I've rebooted, checked for updates, cleaned out my temp folder, ran through the zunepackage47.exe again, rebooted, etc. Surveillance camera software download, free.

I've searched the forums for this problem and found this:

Free Download Microsoft Zune Driver 4.7.965.0 64-bit (DVD / Blu-Ray / Media Players). Microsoft Download Manager is free and. Use Zune software to find great music on Zune Music. Or Windows 7; 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster 32-bit.
One reply (ReneKolmos) leads to instructions about how to delete a 34 bit .dll file protected by trustedinstaller and another (Jajanut) saying I need to install under Vista compatibility mode. I'm fine with doing a lot of stuff on my computer but I'm darn leery of going about messing with system files. Especially when I just want to install one dumb program. I could understand problems if I was installing a funky 3rd party program but I'm quite surprised about how long it's taking trying to install this one MS program on a MS OS.
Sorry I went off on a little rant . . . now how to I get Zune installed? Do I follow the ReneKolmos answer or the Jajanut one or something else? Mainly I need confirmation on exactly what I need to do to so I don't royally mess up my system.
